Bailey of Manchester
Bailey House

Bailey House

Earl Bailey of Manchester is a direct descendent of Arlington the Hasty of Mancunia whose ancient kingdom covered much of present Manchester.  Bailey House, the ancestral home of the Earls of Manchester, is in the desirable Manchester suburb of Moss Side. The current Earl Bailey of Manchester, Lord Daniel, was voted young toff of the year in 2003 by Fiddler and Kidd Magazine. Lord Daniel has a large collection of cars, including a Porsche Speedster, a Ferrari Dino and his favourite car, a 1992 Ford Escort XR3i with dog leg alloys and big bore exhaust. Lord Daniel derives most of his income from his substantial family business interests but prefers to devote his time to his position on the board of Liverpool Football Club, the team he has supported since he was a child. Lord Daniel is a cultured man with a fondness for languages and speaks 7 languages fluently, including Anglo Saxon, Latin and Esperanto.  Lord Daniel's most famous ancestor was Arlington the Hasty who married Mildred the Impolite, youngest daughter of King Offa of Mercia.  Arlington the Hasty, with the help of King Offa, started work on a tunnel under the Irish Sea through which he intended to invade Ireland.  The tunnel was completed after only 12 years but Arlington met his end, along with the entire Mancunian army, when the tunnel collapsed and buried them all alive.  There is no official record of how Arlington came to be known as Arlington the Hasty although contemporary accounts suggest that it was more to do with his performance in the bedroom than the speed with which he attempted to invade Ireland.  On the death of Arlington, the Mancunian Kingdom was absorbed by the Kingdom of Mercia and Arlington and Mildred's eldest son, Quentin the Inappropriate, was made Earl of Manchester.
